The Thinker (2019)

"The Thinker" is inspired by the original bronze sculpture "The Thinker" by Auguste Rodin. This painting deals with what black girls think about at the most basic level: the journey to be beautiful and accepted. For many women of color, this journey begins at a young age when they are bombarded with media images encouraging them to seek a European standard of beauty. It's a journey filled with feelings of inadequacy and an obligation to appear to be something other than themselves.
