Jubilee (Limited Edition) (2026)

36 x 48 | Mixed Media (Acrylic, Newsprint): This piece is about joy — not the loud kind, but the kind you arrive at after surviving something. Jubilee was inspired by Alvin Ailey’s Cry, as danced by Judith Jamison — a work that moves through sorrow, endurance, and finally, release. I wanted to sit in that final moment. The freedom. The breath. The joy that comes when you are no longer metaphorically "shackled" by carrying what once weighed you down.

The layered textures and embedded newsprint hold memory and history, while the figure expands outward — no longer shackled, no longer confined, no longer bracing. Just freely donning a new consciousness of Black potential. Jubilee, in this sense, is not accidental. It is earned. And sometimes, choosing joy is the most powerful act of freedom we have.
